Why is Nail Dust So Dangerous?

When working with a client, everything that you have applied to the nail and everything ANY OTHER nail technician has applied to the nail, be it a legal or illegal product for our industry, you have now inhaled. Read your MSDS documents! You do NOT want this in your body. Your body can’t naturally break down many products used in the nail industry, so once they are in your system, they are there to stay. Lowering body toxicity once it is raised is extremely difficult, so the earlier you protect yourself, the better!

HOW EMENDEE WORKS

emendee workstations have the ability to draw in particles from 30cm (1 foot) above the extraction system located in the middle of the work surface. In addition to this, they are also capable of drawing particles from 5cm outside the optimal working area designated on the table by the Primary Filter.

 

This large working area coupled with the system’s ability to draw and filter 287 cubic metres of air per hour means that no nail technician or client can inhale artificial nail dust while working with one of our patented dust and vapour extraction systems – not even when using a powerful e-file!

INDEPENDENT AIR QUALITY ASSURANCE

WHY IS EMENDEE BETTER?

INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED

emendee workstations are specifically innovated for the nail technician and the nail industry. Often people ask us why we don’t make larger systems that we can put into the ceiling of a salon so that only one extraction system needs to be bought per salon.

 

Our answer to this is simple. If we draw the air away from a nail technician any other way but downwards, we are exposing the nail technician and potentially their client to direct and unavoidable inhalation of artificial nail dust. In compliance with WH&S act (96-i) where a salon owner or nail technician is liable for providing clean air to their employees and clients, any other solution would be inadequate and open the nail technician or salon owner to litigation.

It is made up of our patented extraction unit, primary filters, secondary filters and filter guards. The unit can be purchased separately and retrofitted into any existing table as long as a hole can be cut into the surface. SNU rings are adjustable to allow for different depths of the work surface to ensure a flush fit and the most ergonomic and natural working environment possible.

 

SNU maintenance is simple, follow the cleaning instructions for your filters (detailed in the sections below) and get a vane anemometer check every 2 years to ensure your SNU is still working at optimum efficiency. Emendee can provide this service, along with an expected timeframe before a replacement SNU would be required.

PRIMARY FILTERS

The role of Primary filters on your workstation is extremely important. They are your first line of defence, and filter out large particles of artificial nail dust and other products, preventing them from reaching the inner workings of your workstation.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO STOP LARGE PARTICLES GOING INTO YOUR WORKSTATION?

Inside your workstation is a finely-tuned ecosystem designed specifically to handle and filter the tiniest, sharpest parts of artificial nail dust. Introducing large particles into the system can cause clogging and potentially wear down your motor – even causing it to stop working or burn out altogether.

 

This is why Primary Filters are an integral part of your workstation and MUST be rinsed, squeezed and replaced on your running workstation between each client.


Artificial nail dust particles must be washed out from the underside in order to maintain optimal filter integrity. This means NEVER flipping them over and allowing particles to enter from the other side while you’re working with a client.

 

Once particles enter from the opposite side of the filter, they can become stuck and not wash out, even causing holes in your filter, which will allow unwanted large particles into your system.

SECONDARY FILTERS

The Secondary Filters are your last line of defence. They are the filters that stop all of the ultra-fine particles of artificial nail dust from being released back into the air in your salon space. Secondary filters trap dust so well, that only clean, cool air is fine enough to escape through them.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO USE AN E-DUSTER TO ENSURE RESIDUAL DUST MAKES IT INTO THE SECONDARY FILTERS?

Using an E-Duster to blow any excess dust down into your Secondary Filters is essential. If you let fine dust build up around your motor this can kick back up and be released into the air, right in front of you and your client. It can also cause product build-up around your motor and cause it to stop or burn out.

 

This is why it is essential that you vacuum your Secondary Filters at the end of every week for a busy salon or at the end of every month for a part-time nail technician.

 

There is also a risk of this kickback happening if you do not clean your secondary filters often enough and can be a real danger to you and your client’s health – even if you have an emendee!

Important Reminder for Non-Hire Customers

Although emendee SNU hearts are fully sealed, the dust produced is so fine that eventually it can go down the shaft and start to slow the air draw. Through thorough testing, we know that the hearts are great for 2 years in a busy salon. We recommend that a back-to-base Service and Clean is performed annually by emendee at a nominal cost to make sure the unit is working optimally. If your workstation is not working optimally, a service report will be supplied with a range of options available to you.
